Three-time Olympian Jim Ryun to visit Elizabethtown
Three-time Olympian Jim Ryun, who held world records in numerous events, will visit Elizabethtown in November and make several public appearances, including as the celebrity guest of a unique race called Jim Ryun Prediction Mile, a speaking engagement at Elizabethtown Area High School and a book signing at The Inside Track in Lancaster.
Applied Race Management Solutions is proud to be a primary sponsor of Ryun’s visit to the area, and we will be providing timing services for the prediction mile race.
Here are the details about Ryun’s public appearances:
Jim Ryun Prediction Mile
7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13
Ryun will be the celebrity host of this unique race, held under the lights on Elizabethtown Area High School’s track. Registration is open now for a maximum of 100 runners. The race is unique in that the fastest runner will not necessarily win the race. When they register, runners must predict their anticipated finish time down to one-tenth of a second. The runner closest to their time, without going over, will win. The top 5 predictors overall will get a personally autographed copy of Jim Ryun’s book “The Courage to Run.” A number of door prizes will be awarded! Every runner will receive a unique, limited edition Jim Ryun Prediction Mile t-shirt.
Motivational talk — Elizabethtown Area High School auditorium
7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15
Ryun will give a motivational talk that is open to public. He is expected to discuss his successes as a runner at elite levels, including winning a silver medal in the 1500 meters at the 1968 Olympics and being the first high schooler to run the mile in under 4 minutes.
Book signing — The Inside Track
7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16
Ryun will greet customers and sign copies of his book “The Courage to Run” at The Inside Track, 1659 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.
