Hershey Half Marathon race report
On a beautiful but cold fall morning, thousands of runners descended on Hershey to line up for the fifth annual Hershey Half Marathon. With temperatures in the mid 30s at the start, and the sun just peeking over the horizon, more than 3,800 people began 13.1-mile journey through Hersheypark and past many other significant landmarks in town. The course winds its way through the park, past the Hershey Country Club and out to the campus of the Milton Hershey School before heading back to downtown Hershey and finishing in Hersheypark stadium.
Fred Joslyn, 31, of Mount Holly Springs, won the race in 1:11:35. PennLive reported that Joslyn also won the Harrisburg Half Marathon in June.
On the women’s side, Mary Dell, 27, of Hummelstown, won her third consecutive Hershey Half in 1:19:08.
Applied Race Management Solutions’ owner Chuck Wells, his wife, Grace, and their daughter, Julee, were part of the field. Chuck ran the entire race, with Julee and Grace doing the relay. In the photo above, Chuck and Julee are approaching Mile 3 in the race. Julee, who had just finished the cross country season at Elizabethtown Area Middle School on Saturday, ran the first half in 1:00:15. Chuck and Grace finished the race in 2:20:04.
